Practical support and expert advice to help local people save money= and stay warm this autumn and winter.

  • The Healthy Homes Heating Fund, which provides financial suppo= rt for residents with long-term health conditions
  • The Great British Insulation Scheme, which can help with loft a= nd cavity wall insulation for eligible households.

Do it for East Yorkshire scheme reopens

The Do it for East Yorkshire (DIFEY) scheme offers funding for yout= h initiatives through its Our Place - Youth Fund. This fund supports commun= ity groups, charities, and youth projects across the East Riding. A total o= f =C2=A3150,000 is available for projects that aim to benefit young people = in the area.

Study launched into improving rail connectivity between Gool= e and Leeds

We are launching a major study to improve public transport connecti= vity for Goole and the Lower Aire Valley to Leeds, working with local autho= rity partners across Yorkshire.

The study, commissioned from Stantec, will develop a =E2=80=98case = for change=E2=80=99 to explore better strategic transport links between Goo= le, Knottingley and onward connections to Leeds, Hull and Wakefield.

Project Gigabit boosts rural connectivity

Rural East Riding communities are now beginning to access gigabit-c= apable broadband through Project Gigabit - a government-funded initiative.&= nbsp;

Broadband supplier Quickline has been awarded contracts worth more = than =C2=A3300 million to expand high-speed internet access across Yorkshir= e and Lincolnshire, including up to 25,000 rural premises in the East Ridin= g.

East Riding Libraries=E2=80=99 Festival of Words poetry comp= etition launches

The 2025 Festival of Words poetry competition is open, with the the= me =E2=80=98My Universe=E2=80=99.

Prizes on offer for the winning entries include the =C2=A3500 East = Riding Gold prize, the East Riding Silver Prize of =C2=A3200 and the East R= iding Bronze Prize of =C2=A3150.

In addition, there will be six Highly Commended prizes of =C2=A325 = each, two for adults and two each for primary and secondary school pupils.<= /p>

The closing date for the competition is Saturday, 10 J= anuary 2026.

An update on the redevelopment of East Riding Leisure Goole<= /h3>

Goole Library and Customer Service Centre are to remain in their cu= rrent Carlisle Street location.

This follows plans that were originally put forward to move both se= rvices into the brand-new Goole Hub, alongside East Riding Leisure Goole.

The decision was made for them to remain in their current location = due to the building remaining in council possession. The Goole Museum is al= so housed in the same building and has no plans to relocate.

With the wider work of the Goole Town Deal the current location of = the library and museum works well with the redevelopment of the adjacent Ma= rket Hall. An application has also been made to the Libraries Improvement F= und to refurbish and upgrade the library. If the application is successful = work would start at the end of the bicentenary year.
